In family therapy I aim to reduce distress and conflict in the family system by improving interactions between family members. My goal is always to solve the problem quickly and effectively. Behavioral and emotional problems in children are a common reason for families to visit my office. However, a child's behavior does not exist in a vacuum and can often benefit from being addressed in the context of the family. This may mean focusing on healthier ways to communicate, creating behavioral contracts that benefit both the parent(s) and the child, and using solving problem skills for identifying more effective solutions.
Therapy services may consist of a mixture of both individual and family therapy sessions as seen fit. Successful outcomes are not dependent on the entire family attending each session and can still remain effective with only the child and parent present.
